The phrase 'Old But Gold' is entirely inspired by the Victorian frame itself. Using a traditional method but creating something new and relatable. Freehand painted in reverse, onto glass, this piece was originally inspired by the ornate frame it's mounted in, which is dated from the late 1800's. Using the traditional Victorian method of gilding, this piece has been hand painted, then 23 carat gold leaf has been applied using gelatine and oil solutions to create a mirrored effect. Real mother of pearl shell has then been inlayed into the glass, giving this piece sense of depth and a beautiful effect when catching the light at different angles. The natural materials used encourage a stunning effect that is hard to capture by anything that isn't the human eye. 'Old But Gold' comes framed and is signed by the artist.
